web site design

When I'm working on a problem, I never think about beauty. I think only how to solve the problem. But when I've finished, if the solution isn't beautiful, I know it's wrong.

Web Site Design

Are you looking for a website that is easy to use and communicates your message to potential customers?
We help you to c o m m u n i c a t e with the way that your web site looks and feels, the actions that it inspires your visitors to take and with the emotional connection brought about by strong visuals and clear writing.
We make it  e a s y   t o   u s e  your website through simplicity of design, intuitive navigation, web site usability testing and ultimately, by connecting your website visitor to what she or he wants to find.

Do you wonder about why designers choose designs that frustrate you or slow your computer to a crawl?
We use animation and sound when the content suggests that it will be helpful to communicate a certain point, but not just as decoration. Special effects can be used effectively to communicate a feeling or to illustrate a point, but when over-used they create confusion and frustration for users. To illustrate this point, ask yourself how many times have you arrived at a new website and clicked "skip intro"?

Tell me a few things that work well in web design...
Color and persuasive architecture are two important parts of our design success.

"Research reveals all human beings make a subconscious judgment about an . .. item within 90 seconds of initial viewing and that between 62% and 90% of that assessment is based on color alone."
Institute For Color Research

Color makes an undeniable impact on mood.
If you want a warm and inviting website, stay away from bright red and orange. If you want to create a subtle mood to communicate a certain style, yellows and blacks are not your friends. Each color communicates a certain feeling, so when we design a website, we often begin with an image (a photo or a symbol) and extract a color that's

We use tools such as ColorCache and Adobe Photoshop to make sure that colors play nicely together, and of course we read lots of interesting books and articles on color in design. We also pay attention to colors in nature, on websites, etc. and see how they make us feel. Here is one an article on color that serves as a useful introduction.

Persuasive Architecture - the power of suggestion

Have you ever entered the store planning to purchase a single item -- a tube of toothpaste or a box of cereal? Then before you know what happened, you have the toothpaste, the cereal, a box of soymilk that was on sale, some organic apples, and one of those chocolatey nutrition bars that you just can't resist while you're waiting in line.
To the retailer, this was a carefully planned exercise in "upselling", or organizing the information that you encounter in such a way that it "makes sense" or "feels right" to make the purchase.

Persuasive architecture encourages the users of your website to do what it is that your site intends.
Do you want your site visitors to buy your products? Maybe you want them to sign up for your e-zine, or send you an email to begin a dialogue about a project.

Persuasive architecture weaves the process of surfing your website into the process of buying your product or contacting you by directing the information flow. We use visual imagery, navigation, layout, and language to accomplish these goals. We also make extensive use of site statistics (these come free with all of our hosting plans) to better understand the information flow in a website.

We ask the question: What do your website visitors need?
This question is answered with the careful organization of your products and services in a click-path that encourages them to find what they need, and for you to have an effective tool for marketing your services and products, so that everyone comes away smiling.

Pricing and Fee Structure: As each project we work on is as unique as the business behind it, Watermelon Web Works does not offer package rates. We generally charge per project or at a standard hourly rate for our services. We invoice monthly with itemized statements, and for larger projects, ask for a 25% deposit.
